Volkswagen has been producing some of the most popular and recognizable cars in history. The original Beetle quickly became an icon in the automotive industry, with over 21 million sold worldwide before production ended in 2003. The Golf and its sporty variant, the GTI, also became instant hits, and helped popularize the hatchback body style.

Despite being known for its compact cars, Volkswagen has diversified its product range over the years. The automaker entered the SUV market in 2002 with the Touareg, and followed up with the Tiguan compact crossover in 2009.

Volkswagen continues to manufacture cars that are both practical and fun to drive, whether it's a small, fuel-efficient hatchback or a spacious and family-friendly SUV. Competitors in the industry include Toyota, Honda, Mazda, and Buick, among others.
